NTP (Network Time Protocol)
Updated 2020/10/21

Devices such as PCs on the campus network synchronize time with a time server using a mechanism called NTP (Network Time Protocol).
The university's time server uses GPS * to maintain accurate time.

Various problems occur when the date of mail is shifted, mail is received from the future, file creation time is incorrect, and time information such as access log becomes unreliable.
By referring to the time server of Center for Science Information from a computer connected to the university network, such as a laboratory or SRAS, you can automatically synchronize to the correct time.

* ---
GPS (Global Positioning System) is a system that measures (measures its own position accurately) using radio waves transmitted from multiple satellites traveling around the earth.
Positioning is carried out using radio arrival time by an atomic clock mounted on the satellite, but this time information is used as a reference time source.
