Category A Software Operation Guidelines

Overview Software group that deploys paid software that is expected to be used universally in PC classrooms and universities as a result of the selection of the Center for Science Information.
The budget department is the Information Network Systems Section.
This introduction and abolition will be examined at the Center for Science Information Conference and will be decided on whether or not to introduce it.
Prerequisites
  1. Expected to be universally usable throughout the university.
    Example) OS: Microsoft Windows, etc.
    General application, software:
・ Products under Microsoft comprehensive license agreement (Microsoft Office, etc.)
    ・ Anti-virus software
・ Products based on Adobe comprehensive license agreement, etc.

  2. For PC classes and for creating class assignments
  3. A network (floating) license must be set (or it can be installed on all terminals in the PC classroom in terms of price)
  4. Do not require a hardware key on the client PC.
  5. It can be accommodated in the disk capacity of the client PC or server.
  6. License control is possible.
Introduction flow
  1. Selection (Center for Science Information)
The Center for Science Information will select new software that meets the prerequisites and is expected to be useful for the University, or software that falls under 2.8 and 2.9.

  2. Investigation / Examination (Center for Science Information Conference)

Decide whether to introduce or introduce at the Center for Science Information meeting. At the time of deliberation, the information system section will investigate the following points in advance and report the results together.
Whether the prerequisites for each category are met
・ Is there any influence on the existing system such as interference with installed software?
・ Network license or expenses when installing on all terminals in PC classroom
・ Other information on installation and operation of the software

  3. Procurement (Center for Science Information / Information Network Systems Section)
Ordering procedures and budgetary measures necessary for purchasing software are handled by the Information Network Systems Section.

  4. Introduction (Installation) (Center for Science Information / Information Network Systems Section)
Start operation as soon as installation and operation check in the PC classroom is complete. In addition, for software that can be used outside the classroom due to a license, the usable range, installation procedure, and precautions will be announced on the Web page of the Center for Science Information.

  5. Maintenance
In principle, make maintenance and support contracts as appropriate and operate in appropriate situations. In addition, if the number of users or classes used is drastically reduced as a result of the survey on the actual use of 2.6, it will be judged whether or not it can be used continuously after deliberation at the Center for Science Information meeting. The software that has been denied continuation will be abolished and uninstalled after being well-known on the Center for Science Information Web page.
Version upgrade

As a general rule, version upgrades during the year are not implemented because they often hinder class management.
As an exception, in the following situation, upgrade work is performed as necessary.

Example:-If a security bug is found
-When a problem is found that interferes with the lesson

Managing the number of licenses

In order to implement appropriate operations, software with a limited number of licenses is managed by the “license management software”.
Also, in the case where there is a hindrance to the use with higher usage priority, the activation restriction is similarly performed by the “license management software”.

Usage survey

Check the usage status of each software, etc., as appropriate, whether it is appropriate to install as Category A software. At that time, only the number of software activations may be used as reference data in the logs that can be acquired by "License Management Software".

Usage priority

According to the purpose of Category A software, set the usage priority as follows.
If the use with higher priority is hindered, the activation restriction of the software is implemented by “license management software”.

  1. Class
  2. Class assignment creation
  3. General use outside class hours
  4. Laboratory use
Category change from category B or C to category A

For software that has already been installed as Category B and Category C software, as a result of usage surveys, software that has been widely used in many departments is classified into A information for the purpose of more efficient operation. Deliberate at the center meeting.

Processing category A software installation requests from departments, etc.

In principle, the Center for Science Information selects Category A software, but it is also possible to receive requests for software installation as Category A from departments. Requests will be made in a request form (free format) addressed to the Director of the Center for Science Information under the name of the department. The Center for Science Information will conduct a study based on the contents of the request form according to the “Flow of Software for Category A Software Introduction”.
