Category C Software Operation Guidelines

Updated 2021/03/18

Conditions The conditions of software that can be applied for as Category C software are as follows.
  • To be used in the PC classroom at the Center for Science Information and to create assignments for the class r
  • The course subject, period of use, and the person in charge of the software (full-time teacher) can be clearly stated.
  • Approved at the meeting held in the relevant application department (determines that the application is approved by each department with the signature and seal of the common department / department / department chief of the common department of engineering)
  • Must have multiple licenses
  • A network (floating) license must be available
  • License control must be possible
  • Software that does not require a hardware key on the client PC
  • Software of a size that can be saved in the hard disk space of the client PC
  • Must subscribe to a support maintenance contract
  • Use may be restricted or abolished due to the system update of the Center for Science Information
Survey implementation
  1. Survey period
    * Once every year, a “Category C Software Questionnaire” will be conducted, and this submission shall be an application for the introduction of Category C Software. The implementation period is as follows. In principle, applications for Category C software other than the implementation period will not be accepted.
    Early December
Distribution of questionnaire for next year
    Late December
    Questionnaire submission deadline
    After mid-January the following year
Deliberation of application contents at the Center for Science Information meeting, determination of installed software
    Early March
Sending notification of results to each application department

  2. Joint application
When multiple application departments use one type of software, they can apply jointly. In that case, the cost of the software will be consulted between the application departments, and an appropriate apportioned amount shall be entered in the questionnaire.

  3. Application for out-of-class use of software
If the software license permits use outside the classroom (such as on-campus laboratories) and you wish to use the software in laboratories belonging to the application department, you can submit an application form outside the classroom for the target software.  In addition, regarding the software installed in the joint application, it is necessary that the joint application department agrees to use it outside the classroom.
Software installed under an unlimited number of site license agreements can be used without applying for use outside the classroom by using 4.5 software outside the classroom [in the case of a site license agreement].
Operation method
  1. Purchase and contract of software
The purchase and contract window for Category C software is the Information Network Systems Section.

  2. Introduction to PC classroom
The Category C software decided to be installed at the Center for Science Information Conference will be installed mainly in the Information Network Systems Section with the goal of starting operation in April every year.

  3. Version upgrade
As a general rule, version upgrades during the year are not implemented because they often hinder class management.
As an exception, in the following situation, upgrade work is performed as necessary.
    [Situation example]
When a security bug is discovered
When a problem that interferes with the class is discovered
When there is an offer from the application department (the software for joint application has been agreed between all application departments)

  4. Managing the number of licenses
In order to prevent unauthorized use of Category C software and implement appropriate operations, software with a limited number of licenses is managed by the “license management software”. Also, if the use of higher priority order is hindered, start-up is also restricted by “License Management Software”.

  5. Use of software outside the classroom
The operation method is determined by the difference in the license contract form.
    [For site license agreements]
The faculty and students are informed of the usable range, installation procedures, and precautions on the Center for Science Information website.
    [Other than site license agreement]
After confirming whether the license can be used outside the classroom, the necessary settings will be adjusted between the target laboratory and the Information Network Systems Section.

  6. Usage survey
Each year, the Center for Science Information meeting decides whether or not it is appropriate to install the software requested through the questionnaire. At that time, only the number of software activations may be used as reference data in the logs that can be acquired by "License Management Software".

  7. Usage priority
According to the purpose of Category C software, set the usage priority as follows. If the use with higher priority is hindered, the activation restriction of the software is implemented by “license management software”.
・ Application classes (including teachers' preparation for classes)
・ Creating class assignments for the application department
・ Use laboratory in application department
・ Use of other departments based on the agreement of the application department
・ General use outside class hours
