Microsoft 365 Multi-Factor Authentication Setup Guide

 

Multi-factor authentication can reduce the risk of password leaks.

 

 *Starting in October 2025, multi-factor authentication will be required when logging in to Microsoft 365.

If multi-factor authentication is not set up, you will not be able to log in, so please set up multi-factor authentication yourself in advance.

This guide explains how to install and use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your iOS or Android smartphone.





① Open your Microsoft account page

From a PC web browwer

https://aka.ms/mfasetup

Go to and sign in.
If you are already signed in, authentication will be skipped and you can proceed to step ②

On the Microsoft Sign-in dialog, enter 

 User ID@sic.shibaura-it.ac.jp

and press "Next".




The ADFS sign-in screen will be displayed.
Sign in with your Science Information Center account.


If you are successful in signing in, the "My Sign-in" security information page will be displayed.


If an authentication method you are unfamiliar with (such as phone number or software token) is registered as a sign-in method on this screen, this may be fraudelent use. Please contact the Informational Innovation Section immideately without deleting your registered information.



② Add a sign-in method

Click  "+Add a sign-in method"


A screen will appear asking you to select the sign-in method,
Select "Microsoft Authenticator" (not "Microsoft Authenticator passkey"

 

Your will then be prompted to download the app.

 


 

③ Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone




For iOS, install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store.




For Android, install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Google Play Store



④ Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app

Accept the privacy statement

Continue.

 

 

 

Press Skip.

 

Press "Add Account"

(If you have alraedy registered a other account. press the "+"  in the upper right corner.)


Press "Work or school account"

 

Press "Scan QR code"

 


 

⑤ Scan the QR code to register

Return to the PC screen and press "Next" on the app acquisition screen.


Click "Next" on the account setup.


A QR code will be displayed


Scan the QR code with the Microsoft Authenticator app.

When you scan, a confirmation will appear asking for permission to send notifications, so press "Allow".


Now you have registered your smartphone.
 


return to your PC's web browser and Click "Next"


A two-digit number will appear on the "Try it out" screen and you will receive a notification on your smartphone.



Enter the two-digit number displayed on your PC's web browser into the Microsoft Authenticator screen on your smartphone and press "Yes"

 

Microsoft Authenticator has been registered to your Microsoft account. Click "Next".


If "Microsoft AUthenticator" is registered in "Security Information". Registration is complete.

 


 

⑥ Enable multi-factor authentication


Lon in to the AMI and "enable" multi-factor authentication from "M365 MFA" in the left menu.

 


⑦ How to use

Please refer How to use Microsoft 365 multi-factor authentication.

 


⑧ If you change your smartphone

 

If you change your smartphone and can no longer use Microsoft Authenticator, you can reset it and register again.

Log in to the AMI and click "M365 MFA" in the left menu to "Reset" your multi-factor authentication.

If you reset, please complete the re-registration within 60 minutes.
