Internet trouble

Updated 2023/10/6

As Internet users increase, Internet troubles are also increasing rapidly. While some users use the Internet as a useful tool, some people try to trick people into making money using this convenient Internet, while others mischief for the purpose of making many people in trouble.

Type of trouble

The following are some of the Internet troubles. Let's be careful not to get into trouble.

  • Phishing scam damage
This is a scam in which an e-mail disguised as a real bank / credit card company or shopping site is sent to a similar “fake homepage” to obtain a credit number, ID / password. In Japan, spam emails for phishing scams are increasing rapidly.

    [Phishing technique]
Many phishing emails spoof From. I will send you a plausible e-mail address of a major shopping site.

[Prompt for credit number and password]
A page for entering the “credit number” and “password” that is the final purpose of the phishing scam appears. Never enter it.

[There is no way to protect]
Suddenly just a mail is sent and there is no attached file, so it is not detected by anti-virus software. Even if you access the homepage written in the mail you received, you can't make it inaccessible because there is no hidden code that anti-virus software can detect.

    [To prevent]
    ・ Do not trust email
・ Check the mail header (information)
・ Do not access the link
・ Check if the homepage address is authentic
・ Access and confirm the real site

  • Computer virus
A computer virus is a program that is intentionally created by a heartless person (the virus does not appear naturally) to cause damage to the computer.
It enters your computer from e-mail attachments, files downloaded from websites, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, etc. In order for a virus to infect a computer, it must be run without a program. The virus works by opening an email or opening a file.

    [To prevent]
It is necessary to install anti-virus software and always update to the latest pattern file. Center for Sciense Information recommend to use Microsoft Defender or/and XProtect as anti-virus software.

  • Spam (spam)
Spam that you do n’t want to receive is called spam. It will be sent indiscriminately in large quantities. Please note that spam includes many temptation / advertisement emails, including fraudulent emails.
The origin of spam is an e-mail that is sent many times even though I do not want the story of an annoying group that repeatedly calls `` SPAM '' in the play of the popular British comedy program `` Monty Python '' It seems that it was attached because it is similar.

  • Targeted personal information
Personal information is information that can identify an individual, such as name, address, telephone number, and email address. In addition, there are product purchase information and educational background. This information can be bought and sold and used for nuisance and crime.
It is very dangerous to write personal information on the Internet homepage. be careful.

  • Fraud damage at auction sites
In the Internet auction site, you can easily purchase not only second-hand goods but also new products at home, or you can sell goods directly.
However, there are many fraudulent damages, such as the goods that should have been purchased will not arrive indefinitely, and money will not be transferred despite sending the goods.
You must be aware of these risks when using an auction.

  • Hiding in dating and adult sites
Troubles may be lurking on homepages for the purpose of encountering the opposite sex, or on homepages for viewing adult images and videos.

    [Access from curiosity is dangerous]
You may be charged a high fee just for access from curiosity. be careful.

[I didn't realize it was paid]
If you think that it was written as free, you might have missed the small “Introduction fee is 30,000 yen for free access” written in the corner of the image.

Why does spam arrive?

It happened that your email address was sent to a large number of emails sent by spammers.

  • Combined characters mechanically at random
  • What was written on the bulletin board was collected by the collecting robot
  • Something on the homepage or questionnaire leaked
  • Selling and buying between villains

How to stop spam

Unfortunately, there is no definitive way to stop spam.
For mobile phone e-mail addresses, there is a method to change the e-mail address frequently, but the e-mail address given at Center for Sciense Information cannot be changed.
In order to prevent further increase in the number of spam, there are the following methods as a minimum measure.

  • Never reply to spam
  • Do not access URL written in spam
  • Do not write your email address on other websites
  • Do not write your email address on your homepage
  • Only give your email address to a close person
  • Prepare an alias address
