Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) Setup

Updated: 2026/02/18

At our university, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required for almost all services. Please be sure to configure MFA for both Microsoft and Google.

1. Install smartphone apps

You will need the two smartphone apps shown below, so please install them on your smartphone. If you have already installed them, you do not need to reinstall.

App Name Overview
Microsoft Authenticator

This is a multi-factor authentication app provided by Microsoft.
It is used when logging in to almost all services provided by the university.

Gmail

Gmail, which is mainly used at the university, requires multi-factor authentication.
At the university, we recommend using this app for MFA, and this manual is written accordingly.

For those who do not have a smartphone, or those who cannot install apps depending on their device

We lend out security keys that can be used for multi-factor authentication instead of a smartphone. We provide guidance individually, so please contact the Information Innovation Division at goiken@sic.shibaura-it.ac.jp.
